Kelsey Brooks

I took a little road trip yesterday to photograph artist Kelsey Brooks for Nylon Guys Magazine. Ollie came with me for company and we had fun like we always do. We photographed Kelsey in a gallery in La Jolla called Quint Contemporary Art. If you are around that area, Kelsey's show will be up for the next couple days.

Photos to come later on, but in the meantime here is a camera phone video Ollie took of Kelsey doing back flips! (He also did head stands!)

I finished a new photo for This Is A Photoblog - the assignment was "Renaissance":

Also, Wonderful Machine recently highlighted my portfolio, and posted a video tour of my portfolio book on YouTube. You can watch it below if you'd like to get a sense of how I present my work for potential clients:

Hunger

I work with my dad's design Cyberia Media (link) quite often, doing photography and video for various projects. This latest project was really fun. I did most of the photo and video (the rest was stock) for a video called "Fed Up With Hunger" for the Jewish Federation. The Beastie Boys donated a song, and everyone worked hard to make this video great. The video can be seen on the Jewish Federation's website (link), or below!

Belle Parish Spring 2010

Last week I photographed Ali Landry's new children's clothing line, Belle Parish. While I had photographed children before, nothing could compare to the 3 baby and 2 toddler models I worked with. I honestly can say I couldn't have done it without my amazing prop stylist Katie. Please check out her work at katiebyron.com! We shot 18 outfits in 5 hours!!! Ali and her business partner Annie needed the photos retouched within a few days for a buyers show so I really had my work cut out for me. Luckily they were amazing to work with, everyone helped out, and the experience was awesome (and very educational).

Below are a few selects (please click photos to enlarge). You can find the other photos and info about Belle Parish on their website, belleparish.com.

Trying something new.

Sometimes when I hit a creative block I gravitate to old inspiration, which have included a lot of films. One of my favorite filmmakers of all time is Samuel Fuller, director of the Naked Kiss and Shock Corridor (PLEASE rent these movies if you haven't seen them. The Naked Kiss is also available on YouTube here). While watching the Naked Kiss for the umpteenth time the other day I decided to do a fun shoot inspired by the film. I have been wanting to experiment with angles and light lately, so this was a perfect self-assignment. Also the next thisisaphotoblog assignment is to experiment with black and white, so I thought I could kill two birds with one stone. I shot with an SLR and Holga. Below is the SLR. The Holga film will be ready on Thursday and assuming it comes out okay will be posted in a few days. Many thanks to Ollie and Caleb for being amazing models as always.

Landon Pigg

A few weeks ago I photographed Landon Pigg for Filter's Ragged Magazine. He is a great musician and everyone had a good time! I will post the spread in a couple weeks when the issue comes out. Until then here are a couple photos I liked that they aren't using in the mag.

Yule Caise for UCLA Magazine

Yule is a writer, director, acting coach, actor, and more. He is so incredibly talented (and also so sweet!). I shot Yule near the Griffith Observatory a couple months ago. He totally didn't mind hiking a bit in his suit, or the dozen hikers that stared while we worked. Him, Alicia (Art Director for UCLA Magazine), and I had a great time doing this shoot!

Please click to enlarge:

I have also included the retouched and non-retouched versions below. I wanted to get the city lights so I photographed Yule on a tripod as the sun was going down, then photographed the landscape without Yule after the sun went down. In Photoshop I merged the two together.

Street Photography

I shot these photos in Vegas for this month's assignment on thisisaphotoblog.com. The assignment was "Street Photography", and the goal was to find someone we didn't know beforehand and take a photo of him/her. Unfortunately I didn't have as much time as I would have liked but I did find some nice ladies right before I had to head back to LA at the Palms Casino, which is where I was staying. I would love to go back to Vegas soon when I have more time and take more photos of the casino regulars. Click to enlarge!
